Filip Hrga, Lawyer at Golden Pines Law, standing in nature in Prince Edward Island

Filip Hrga - Lawyer & Founder

(Pronounced: Fill-ip Hurg-uh)
email: filip@goldenpineslaw.com

Filip is the proud founder and lead lawyer at Golden Pines Law. A passionate advocate for his clients, Filip earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from Brock University, graduating with honours and first-class standing. After a few years working, he pursued his legal education in Ottawa, graduating Cum Laude from the uOttawa Faculty of Law. Ottawa Law is where he not only became a lawyer but also met his wife, Lindsay.

After falling in love with Lindsay, Filip quickly discovered another love: Prince Edward Island. Drawn by the incomparable people, vibrant community, and breathtaking landscape, Filip and Lindsay made PEI their permanent home and built their life together in North Tryon.

Outside of work, Filip is an avid basketball fan, competing in the Summerside men's league and most recently coaching a group of rascals with the East Prince Sting. He also loves chess, puzzles, board games, and travelling. Recently, Filip has been exploring gardening—so if you have any tips for a budding gardener, he'd love to hear them!

Junie McHrga - golden retriever Paw-ralegal at Golden Pines Law laying in the grass

Junie McHrga - Paw-ralegal & Cheese Tax Collector

(Pronounced: Ju-nee Mc-hurg-uh)

Junie, Golden Pines Law’s official paw-ralegal, is a golden retriever with a heart of gold (and a nose for cheese!). When she's not diligently assisting with important paperwork, you’ll find her joyfully swimming, energetically digging holes, and sprinting along the sandy beaches of PEI. Junie loves a good game of fetch—though she prefers being chased rather than returning the ball… In her spare time, she enjoys being pampered by her many doting aunts and uncles (and especially her grandparents!), dutifully collecting her cheese tax from anyone daring to snack nearby, and providing world-class cuddles to her family and friends.

Qualifications Accordion icon

For lawyers, a law degree. For paralegals and support staff, 1 year of any post-secondary. Our only other requirements:

  • be a problem solver, not a problem finder
  • consider yourself a team player
  • comfortable with technology
  • care about community
  • care about providing quality customer service
  • don’t care about fitting the typical “mold”
  • don’t take yourself too seriously

That’s it. No long lists or unreasonable expectations. All experience levels welcome.

How We're Different Accordion icon

We don’t care about tradition. We care about our impact and ensuring that anyone joining our team see this as a place for long-term mutual growth. So, that means we are doing things our own way:

Profit share for employees. Family benefits. RRSP contributions. Work remotely when client work allows. No vacation policy. No sick day policy. 4 day work-weeks.

To us, it’s not “work-life” balance. Work is a big part of life. It shouldn’t need balancing because it should work for you and your family. So, we‘ll treat you like adults. We care that the work gets done and we give our clients the best possible service quality we can; the rest is up to you. All inquiries are held in the strictest confidence, whether we become colleagues or not.

We do things a little differently here. If you’re interested in exploring your options and think you would do well in a new and innovative environment, give us a call to discuss whether we might be a good fit to work together. All inquiries are held in the strictest confidence, whether we become colleagues or not.

We’re Hiring!

Golden Pines Law is growing, and we are looking for a new team member to join our practice in a versatile, important role that combines elements of paralegal work, office management, and legal operations support.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys meaningful responsibility, variety in their day-to-day work, and being part of a modern law office that values both excellent client service and efficient systems. Our firm’s work is focused primarily on real estate, wills and estates, and business law, and we are building a practice that is professional, practical, community-oriented, and technology-forward.

The role

This position is a hybrid role, which means the right candidate will be comfortable wearing several hats. Depending on the candidate’s background and strengths, the role may include:

  • client communication

  • assisting with real estate, wills and estates, and business law files

  • coordinating deadlines, documents, and office processes

  • helping manage day-to-day office operations

  • handling runs to the Registry, Courthouse, Banks, and other Law Firms

  • supporting workflow improvements and internal systems

What matters most is that the candidate is highly comfortable using computers, learning new software and processes, and working in a tech-forward office environment.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for someone who is:

  • organized and reliable

  • comfortable with technology and willing to learn new systems

  • able to manage multiple responsibilities at once

  • practical, proactive, and detail-oriented

  • comfortable working both independently and as part of a small team

A valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle are required. Experience or interest in coding, automation, or process improvement would be a strong asset, but is not required.

Work location and flexibility

The role is based primarily in Summerside, with occasional need for travel to Charlottetown. We offer flexibility in how work is performed, including the option to work from home when the nature of the work allows, balanced with in-office responsibilities as needed.

Compensation and perks

We offer:

  • competitive salary of $50,000 to $65,000, depending on experience and overall candidacy

  • the possibility of a 4-day work week for the right candidate and workflow fit

  • no set vacation days

  • flexible work arrangements, including remote work where appropriate

  • profit sharing

  • the opportunity to grow with a modern and expanding law practice

Who this role may suit

This role may be a strong fit for someone with experience as a paralegal, legal assistant, office manager, law clerk, or operations coordinator, or for someone with a mixed background who is highly organized, tech-comfortable, and interested in building a career in a progressive legal environment. We will also consider recent grads with tech or comp sci backgrounds that are eager to learn and help transform the delivery of legal services.

How to apply

If you think you may be a fit, we’d be pleased to hear from you. Please send your resume and a 1-page cover letter to office@goldenpineslaw.com. Your cover letter must include a reference to how you’ve used AI in the past 3 months, what are your personal interests, and your best example for why you are generally considered to be a reliable person.

ALL APPLICATIONS AND INQUIRIES WILL BE HELD IN THE STRICTEST CONFIDENCE.

Golden Pines Law thanks all applicants for their interest. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted. Applications will be open until the role is filled.
